When ordinary care isn't enough

A grand piano, a wall of paintings, a longcase clock, a cellar of wine, a marble sculpture — each needs a method of its own, the right materials, and people who have moved one before.

Some things can't simply be wrapped and lifted into a van. A grand piano, a wall of paintings, a longcase clock, a cellar of wine, a marble sculpture — each needs a method of its own, the right materials, and people who have moved one before.

White-glove is our signature service, and it is where MÜVR is at its most careful. We plan each piece individually, build to its exact dimensions where it needs a crate, and record its condition, so there is never any doubt about how it left and how it arrived.

The method

How we handle high-value pieces

Whatever the item, the same principles apply:

  • A pre-move survey of every pieceWe assess each item before choosing how to pack and move it — size, weight, fragility, finish and access all inform the plan.
  • Condition reports with photographsFor high-value items we record condition in writing and in photographs at collection, and again at delivery, so the state of each piece is documented end to end.
  • Crates built to sizeWhere an item needs a crate, we build it to the exact dimensions of the piece, with internal cushioning sized to hold it still.
  • The right materials, never genericAcid-free tissue, pH-neutral foam and specialist blankets — chosen for the item. Ordinary packaging is kept away from antiques and art, where it can mark or abrade a finish.
  • Controlled handlingDelicate and heavy pieces are carried by two people under control, on the proper equipment.
  • Steady transportSensitive items travel cushioned and secured, away from temperature extremes. CONFIRM: air-ride (low-vibration) vehicles — in-house or partner.
Specialist items

What we move

The cards below describe the standard each item is handled to. Confirm with us which we carry out in-house and which we arrange through vetted specialists.

Pianos

Uprights and grands, moved on piano skates and specialist boards with heavy-duty strapping and padded covers. Grands are partially disassembled — legs and pedal lyre removed — and moved on their side on a piano trolley by a crew trained for it. We'd recommend having the piano re-tuned two to four weeks after the move, once it has settled into its new room. CONFIRM: handled in-house or via vetted specialist.

Fine art & paintings

Wrapped in acid-free tissue and pH-neutral foam with specialist art blankets, and crated in cases built to the exact dimensions of the piece with internal cushioning. Condition is recorded with photographs at collection and at delivery. At the new address we unpack, and can install and hang. CONFIRM: hanging/installation in-house or partner.

Antiques

Every piece is assessed individually before we choose a method. Antiques are wrapped in acid-free tissue and specialist furniture blankets; standard packing materials are deliberately avoided, because they can react with or abrade an aged finish.

Wine collections

Handled carefully to avoid disturbing sediment, and inventoried bottle by bottle. Where a collection needs temperature-controlled transport to protect value and taste, we can arrange it. CONFIRM: climate-controlled transport — in-house or partner.

Sculptures, chandeliers & clocks

Sculptures — custom-crated to exact dimensions, soft-wrapped and foam-blocked, carried two-handed under control, condition recorded. Chandeliers — kept hanging where possible; otherwise moved in a custom crate with an internal bar to suspend the piece, with drops and crystals individually protected. Longcase (grandfather) clocks — pendulum, weights and movement removed and packed separately, the case wrapped, blanketed and kept upright, then reassembled and re-set at the new home. CONFIRM: handled in-house or via vetted specialist.

Safes, pool tables & gym equipment

Safes — moved on specialist lifting gear and stair-climbers built for extreme point-loads, after an access-route survey, and secured in transit. Pool & snooker tables — disassembled in the correct sequence (rails, pockets, cloth, then slate), the slate protected in transit, and professionally re-levelled and re-felted on reassembly. Gym equipment — heavy machines dismantled where needed and moved on specialist lifting and stair-climbing gear, again after an access survey. CONFIRM: handled in-house or via vetted specialist.

Declaring and protecting high value

High-value items must be declared so they're properly covered. We'll talk you through declared-value cover and help you list anything of significant worth, so a valuable piece is protected for what it's actually worth rather than a standard per-item cap.
