The method
How we handle high-value pieces
Whatever the item, the same principles apply:
- A pre-move survey of every pieceWe assess each item before choosing how to pack and move it — size, weight, fragility, finish and access all inform the plan.
- Condition reports with photographsFor high-value items we record condition in writing and in photographs at collection, and again at delivery, so the state of each piece is documented end to end.
- Crates built to sizeWhere an item needs a crate, we build it to the exact dimensions of the piece, with internal cushioning sized to hold it still.
- The right materials, never genericAcid-free tissue, pH-neutral foam and specialist blankets — chosen for the item. Ordinary packaging is kept away from antiques and art, where it can mark or abrade a finish.
- Controlled handlingDelicate and heavy pieces are carried by two people under control, on the proper equipment.
- Steady transportSensitive items travel cushioned and secured, away from temperature extremes. CONFIRM: air-ride (low-vibration) vehicles — in-house or partner.
